Meet #STLSocialGood Speaker, @Brianna5mith
Brianna Smith (@Brianna5mith) is an expert digital marketing strategist for Fpweb.net and the voice behind the popular digital marketing and brand strategy blog "Being Your Brand". At #STLSocialGood, our half-day summit on social media marketing for non-profits, Brianna will discuss social media best practices to engage your audience and achieve your business goals. She will also share "8 tools that will help grow your social strategy."
Brianna answered 4 questions for us about her experience with non-profits and social media:
1. What is your experience working for non-profits / community organizations?
While working in New Orleans, I worked on campaigns for several non-profits including Tobacco Free Living, Partners for Healthy Babies, and the Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana, and digital marketing efforts for Cafe Reconcile and the Tulane University School of Science and Engineering.
2. How have you seen social media and the digital/mobile world affect efforts in fundraising or social good?
Social media has been a powerful tool for increasing awareness of social issues both globally and in our own communities. One of the biggest challenges for non-profits is making sure that their message is heard. Social media has allowed them to amplify their message, develop personal connections with their audience, and connect people passionate about the same issues. In my opinion, one of the most successful examples of fundraising through social media and the digital/mobile world is Charity:Water. Charity:Water has been successful at using social media and digital marketing efforts for fundraising by focusing on creating an online community around their mission that focuses on the sharing of stories and developing personal connections using digital media, such as photos and videos.
3. What's your favorite Saint Louis - based "social good" organization?
My favorite social good organization in St. Louis is KEEN St. Louis.
4. What's your favorite past-time/hobby?
My favorite past-times are reading and cooking.
