Trees for Troops is a charitable program that brings together Christmas tree growers across the country to donate Christmas trees to military families. Social media allows us to connect with both our growers who donate trees and the military families who receive them. It is amazing every year to see military families share photos of their family with their new Christmas tree they received and say “thank you for giving us a free Christmas tree,” only then to have the farm or individual who donated it post a reply saying “Our pleasure, thank you for your service.”

I left the advertising agency world to join a small nonprofit to overhaul their marketing efforts, including the development and implementation of social media and content marketing strategies. When I arrived, Diversity Awareness Partnership only had a presence on Facebook and Twitter. DAP serves a variety of audiences which makes message targeting extremely important. Since joining, I have added a variety of social accounts to disseminate our message that differences should be appreciated not tolerated. Also, I use my personal social accounts to spread resources on human rights, as well as the industries of social innovation design and design thinking.

"What a great opportunity! I'm using social media for good for a local non-profit that is doing great things for teens in St. Louis and across the nation: Wyman Center. Through their teen outreach and teen leadership programs, they empower young people to make healthy choices and lead successful lives. Currently, I'm freelancing for them as a communications & digital strategist. I'd love to attend the conference and be exposed to new ideas that I could implement to help them reach more practitioners and community members dedicated to changing the odds for young people."
